 Michael Thomas is a screenwriter, playwright, actor, director and musical director who divides his time between New York, Los Angeles and London, and is currently the Artistic Director of the Renaissance Theatre.  Originally from New London, he attended Wright State University before heading off to Chicago where he became a member of the famed Second City comedy troupe.  Here at the Renaissance, he has created and directed the critically acclaimed Sentimental Journey: Voices of World War II, which celebrated its world premiere on the Ren stage in 2009.  He also wrote the musical revue The Unforgettable Marvelenes, and last season's, Remember Me Always: High School Yearbook 1977 -  and has penned the upcoming Freedom Road, Twilight Gardens and the adaptation of Neos Dance Theatre's Count: The Legend of Dracula.  He has also directed our productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Always Patsy Cline, Nuncrackers: The Nunsense Christmas Musical and Seussical - and will direct the 2010-2011 productions of A Chorus Line, Forever Plaid, They're Playing Our Song and Hairspray.  His other original works for the stage include Hamlet: The Musical, (which ran for seven years in Chicago), The Loved One, Melancholy Baby, Jane Austin's Nonsense and Imbecility.  He has worked on over 3 dozen major motion pictures and television shows, including NBC's  critically acclaimed 30 Rock, and received three of Chicago's coveted Joseph Jefferson Awards for his work, including With or Without Wings, which was named "Best New Play of 2001".  30 Rock received the 2007-2009 Emmy and Golden Globe Award for best comedy series, and in 2009 it garnered a staggering 22 Emmy nominations.
