Matt is a native of Columbus, Ohio, whose theatre training and experience has roots in performing, directing, and producing, as well as in arts administration. He previously served as the Executive Director of the State Theatre of Ithaca, a 1928 historic theatre in Ithaca, NY. Before that, Matt was Director of Education and Marketing for the Sandusky State Theatre. Other positions include Exhibit Director for COSI Columbus, Ohio's premiere science museum and Director of Education for Columbus Children's Theatre. Matt has performed in a number of productions as a professional actor at the Cleveland Play House, the Beck Center for the Arts, and Hope Summer Repertory Theatre. He has taught at a number of companies and schools, including Ohio State University, the Cleveland Play House, Ithaca College, Case Western Reserve University, Fort Hayes Performing Arts School, and Columbus Children's Theatre. As a director, he has worked on stages in Cleveland, Chicago, New York, and Michigan. He most recently directed the Renaissance summer 2007 production of CATS. Matt is an arts advocate, consistently looking for new ways to promote the arts and arts education to people of all ages. In his spare time, Matt has also managed two political campaigns. He holds a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a master of fine arts degree from Case Western Reserve University. Matt lives in the Woodland area of Mansfield his two dogs: Ethan Alan Hawley and Atticus Finch.
