For over 4 decades,
Melissa Manchester has been on the front lines of the pop music industry. First
released in 1997, her award-winning Christmas album, Joy, features some of the best-loved and most cherished holiday
songs of all time, including Have
Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, White Christmas, I've Got My Love To Keep Me
Warm, Christmastime is Here, Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire, A Cradle in
Bethlehem, Christmas Angel, I'll Be Home For Christmas, and many more. Audiences will be sure to recognize other
Manchester hits, such as Through the Eyes
of Love (The Theme from Ice Castles), Don't Cry Out Loud, and The Promise.
Born in New York City, Manchester first made a name for herself as a backup singer for Bette Midler. She scored her first big hit with the classic, Midnight Blue. The hits kept coming and in 1980, she made history when two of her songs were nominated for Academy Awards. A year later she was presented with a Grammy for Female Vocalist of the Year. Television and film audiences will remember her from her recurring role on the NBC series, Blossom, and she was reunited with Midler in the hit film For the Boys. Her many theatre appearances include Song and Dance, I Sent A Letter To My Love and Sweeney Todd with Frasier's Kelsey Grammer. She wrote the musical score for the Disney film, The Great Mouse Detective, and she is currently writing a Broadway musical called The Sweet Potato Queens, based on the best-selling book. Melissa has received the Governor's Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for her contributions to the music and recording arts, and her body of work to date as a singer/songwriter was a featured exhibit at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum. She is set to release her first studio album in a decade, You Gotta Love the Life, on February 10, 2015. The album features Manchester with special guests Al Jarreau, Dave Koz, Keb' Mo', Joe Sample (in one of his last recordings), Dionne Warwick and Stevie Wonder. Critics called Manchester's Joy, "an instant classic", "heartfelt" and "a must for anyone who cherishes the very best holiday music!". Her live performance at the Renaissance marks her only U.S. concert appearance this holiday season.
Melissa Manchester: Joy is part of the Graham 2014-2015 Renaissance Season and the Avita Health Services Concert Series, presented by Alumni Roofing and sponsored by Whitcomb & Hess CPAs and Financial Advisors and Warren Rupp, Inc.
